On the road again: Big Sur

November 14, 2014

You don't fully realize how beautiful California is until you take a little road trip up the coast! Not only does California have amazing weather year-round, but you have everything from the desert, the beaches, wineries, mountains and even the big cities. Everyone always talks about how beautiful the drive up to NorCal is on PCH, and how unbelievable it is in Big Sur...so, as a birthday weekend surprise, we did a road trip/getaway to Big Sur!

Once you arrive in Big Sur, it's almost immediate how calm and at peace you'll feel as you admire its beauty. You forget all the stress, worries, and struggles you've had prior to arriving, and truly appreciate nature and all that Big Sur has to offer.

Thanks to Peggy from VRBO, we found the cutest and quaint cliff-side cabin overlooking the ocean, with open windows and a stone-oven fireplace! The best part of the entire stay was the detached bathhouse with a stand alone soaking tub. For those of us that are used to city life and privacy, the open windows may make you feel uncomfortable, but as soon as you let yourself go, you can freely relax and enjoy being immersed in nature.

We continued our drive north to Monterey Bay and did a little exploring of the seafood markets and had clam chowder served in a giant clam bowl...literally. On the way back from visiting Monterey Bay, we stopped at Nepenthe for a birthday glass of wine and took in a breathtaking coastal view.

Even though we had a few things on our itinerary, simply driving up PCH without an agenda and loving every moment, made it the perfect Big Sur escape. WE EVEN SAW WHALES!!!

A few MUST-DO & SEE:
Overlook Trails to McWay Falls, Post Ranch Inn, Nepenthe, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Bixby Bridge and Monterey Seafood Market.
