Tulum, MX: Hartwood

March 9, 2016

Hands-down one of the best meals I've ever had in Mexico and a must-stop in Tulum. Hartwood is famous in Tulum and beyond - and for a great reason. From the amazing food and its gorgeous atmosphere, it's just one of those spots where you immediately want to go back to dine again the next day. The chef-co-owner Eric Werner is from Brooklyn who formerly cooked at Peasant in New York City before making the move to Tulum... & we're all so glad he did!

What I love about Hartwood is that it only serves local, sustainable ingredients and all the cooking is done over an open flame or in a wood burning stove and grill. The menu is written on a chalkboard and as soon as the waiter reads us each item, we decided to order one of everything off the menu and ALL OF IT was unbelievable. Both beautiful in presentation and incredible in taste.

If you have a party of 8 or more, you can make a reservation. If not, I definitely recommend arriving before 6pm which was around the time we arrived, to put your name on the list and hope that you won't have to wait too long until seated. From what we've been told, the spot is always incredibly busy, and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. I promise you, Hartwood is worth any two hours wait, so go early and it won't disappoint.

Prepare to drool over these photos.
